Tax Associate

Location: Houston, Texas

Job Type: Full-time  

The ideal candidate will be responsible for analyzing and interpreting tax laws, regulations, and policies. Within the Tax department he/she will work in tax return preparation and filing to make sure clients adhere to all pertinent local, state and federal tax regulations and obligations. This position will provide the candidate with the opportunity to grow his/her taxation knowledge and experience.  

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and perform due diligence on federal and state income and franchise tax returns for corporations, partnership, and limited liability companies. 

  • Prepare individual tax returns, 1040 and 1040NR, mainly. 

  • Calculate tax basis depreciation and amortization for tax returns, tax reporting, and tax projections. 

  • Prepare foreign tax returns including 5471, 5472, 8804 and 8805. 

  • Prepare W-7 to apply for ITIN. 

  • Prepare 1099’s, FBAR, Franchise Tax and Sales Tax reports. 

  • Prepare misc. federal tax forms and applications such as EFTPS, EIN/SS-4, POA/2848, Election/8832&2553, installment agreement requests, Form 843, change of address/8822 & any others as needed. 

  • Prepare misc. state tax forms and applications such as Franchise Tax questionnaires, nexus, reinstatements, terminations, TX formation & expansion, & any others as needed. 

  • Calculate quarterly estimate tax. 

  • Assist with making estimated/balance due payments via available payment methods.   

  • Liaison with clients to resolve IRS inquiries adequately. 

  • Preparation and review of responses to various tax audits and notices. 

  • Coordinate with the Accounting department and other business lines as necessary. 

  • Develop proper tax support documentation. 

  • Collaborate with all tax department staff. 

  • Comply with tax professional standards and ethics. 

  • Perform clerical duties, such as typing letters and memos, to comply with agencies’ information requirements. 

  • Special projects and process improvement initiatives. 

  • Adhere to Jambrina’s quality policy and abide by established standards and guidelines aimed at maintaining or improving the quality of products, services, or processes within the organization.  

  • Perform any other requested task as needed, according to the role performed. 

  • Keep the focus on clients to build strong relationships, foster loyalty, and ultimately achieve long-term success. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field. 

  • Competency in QuickBooks is a plus. 

  • Prior experience in accounting is preferred to be at least 2 years. 

  • Bilingual- English and Spanish  (a plus)
